Billy Pie -Better go now

Hello;

Billy Pie

Address: 6919 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23226

Phone: (804) 548-5999

Well, we tried it and liked it.

Its not romantic or laid back, its is brightly lit and lound.

There are no secluded out of the way corners, and the space is pretty small so I would nto try to bring a large group.

The menu is small but every item on it seems to be a gem.

I'd go now before the UR kids are back, because you'll never get in while school is in session.

Brewer's Cafe in Manchester

Hello again;

I just stopped for a quick coffee at Brewer's Cafe in Manchester.

I was suprised to see they have a full ABC liscence, and a small but craft oriented smattering of bourbons.

That's not usual for coffee shops in Richmond.

They are not going for the cheap shot of rail rotgut crowd, I suppose they want to keep it upscale.

If I'm the last one to learn about this feel free to mock me in the comments.

By far the most scenic brewery I have ever been to is Wood Ridge Farm Brewery

If you really want to get a great look at the area around Nelson County and enjoy some craft beer, Wood Ridge Farm Brewery is a must see.

I went on day with on again, off again showers.

I went up to the second floor of the tasting room, and from the wrap around balcony on the second floor i could see all around the area, and watch as mousntains in the area went from verdant green, to softer grays and blues as the storms swept in, to emerging again into sunshiness after the squalls had passed.

They are very dog friendly, and they have a clevger twist on the rules that govern the area.

In Virginia ia you can't have dogs in building where food or beer is made.

The food is made in a freestanding food truck, and the beer is brewed in a diferent building than the tasting room.

That means you can have dogs in the tasting room.

I can't overstate how nice this place is as a spot to sit and enjoy great scenery.

Just to be clear-the food truck is a food truck, but it sits on the brewery site as a home base, so you always have a food option. This is not a hit or miss food truck situation.

If you are going:

Boylan Heights and the "No Drugs No Thugs" policy

Just in case you have not been aware, there was a minor controversey over the holiday weekend.

The manager of Boylan Heights, a bar on "The corner" in Charlottesville, recently said he has instituted a policy requiring patrons show a UVA student ID in order to be admitted to the bar after 11:00 PM.

This created a big back lash. Although "the corner" is very popular with UVA students, it is public property. the locals did not take kindly to the general mangers statements, in particular his comment that he wanted to create a "No Drugs, No thugs" scene.

For context, the UVA student5 body is much whiter and richer than the locals, and thi was seen as racially insensitive to say the least.

To update all the reporting, the manger who made the satement was fired and the owenrship of Boyland Heights said they never endorsed this policy.

How do I feel about this?

If people want to create a space for students, they need to do it on campus and no place else. The idea that any resturant would restricts patronage is this matter would, at the very least, lead me to not want to go in at any time.

Boylan Heights counts on locals for lunch business and for the summer months when school is not in session. If I lived closer, I'd never go in because of this policy.(If it was in fact in place).

There are plenty of places on campus if UVA students want to be soley among other students.

Charlottesville is a lovely place, but there is a raging income gap between certain segments of the population. People with trust funds and 100 Acre horse farms walk past public housing on their way to a craft brewery.

Millionaires eat from taco trucks run by recent arriavals who barely speak english.

My predediction is that we are going to see more and more of this type of thing.

We'll have palces that will use facial recognition and decide your net worth before they let you in, or not.

rooftop bars update in time for Memorial Day

So, which roof top bar in richmond is the highest?

Hey,

I wanted to share my thoughts on the rooftop bars i've been to in RVA.

Kabana-Has a DJ at night, has indoor outdoor dining, and is the msot spacious. It has an open floor plan and is mostly one big outdoor space and one big indoor space. When it get's busy you don't feel cramped. Also has the best view of downtown and the river. Minus is the pedistrian bar offerings. It has a meat market feel and a younger crowd a lot of times. That is not good or bad, just depends on what you want.

Quirk- Better bar program. Quick is divided up into little spaces at different levels, and this made me feel pretty cramped on busy nights. If there is a wait to get up to it, i would not go just for that reason.

The Graduate - Smaller than the other two but all one open space. Smallest menu, to be fair I think they are ramping up so I might check back later.

Post Bellum This is a deck on top of a two story building in the fan, but i9ts still a rooftop. You aren't up in the clouds like the other places, but you are outside.
